Ladies – are you feeling tired for “no reason”, needing coffee or cola to keep you going, feeling run down and stressed, craving salty and sweet snacks, can’t bounce back from stress or illness, decreased sex drive, not having fun anymore? Do you have adrenal fatigue?
I ask because this is true for many clients who have experienced this “crash and burn”.
In my late thirties I struggled with adrenal fatigue where I couldn’t sleep, felt “tired but wired” constantly, on edge, a cup half empty constant feeling, sugar cravings, feeling run down, needing lots of caffeine to get me going in the morning, then wanting alcohol to help me wind down in the evening time. All to get up and do the same repeat cycle again and again.
It took me some time to question – is this normal? After all I had been through many stressful events throughout my life and managed to get through it without any lasting effects on my health. Or so I thought.
I had been to see doctors and they told me – your blood tests are normal, you’re healthy, there’s nothing wrong with you, here is a script for melatonin (to help regulate sleep) and if it continues, I’ll refer you to a sleep clinic.
According to James L Wilson ND, DC, PhD he refers to adrenal fatigue as the 21st Century Stress Syndrome “The medical establishment dismisses knowledge provided by alternative medicine” I know this to be true based on my experience seeing medical doctors. Even though every doctor’s office frequently sees patients presenting with symptoms of low adrenal function, doctors do not check for it.
This is rather painful example of how patients are being well informed enough to request testing for mild hypoadrenia (“hypo” = lower and adrenia = relating to the adrenals) meaning that there is a deficiency in the functioning of the adrenal glands.
There is an abundance of research and evidence to show that adrenal fatigue is one of our most prevalent yet rarely diagnosed conditions for the last fifty years. Most “conventional” doctors are unaware that the problem exists!
So much unnecessary suffering from adrenal fatigue. It seems to have become the social norm and perhaps a running joke with some women, that the more you talk about it the more it is normalised. I am here to say that feeling this way is NOT normal and symptoms can be overcome and reversed through changing food and lifestyle choices. I am now able to live free of symptoms with my management of food and lifestyle choices.
I am not saying that it is an easy road back to reclaiming your health and vitality we are all meant to experience but when you do have the foundations for health and the HABITS for health then over time with some willingness, commitment, the right education and support, health is created.
I’m committed to improving women’s health so I will be dedicating some time to look at the foods that will nourish and replenish your energy stores and bring your hormones back online to balance with the rest of the systems of your body.
